Respirators – for safe and comfortable breathing on the job
Respirators are used in the medical field for self-protection against infectious patients. They also protect the wearer from harmful dusts or aerosols in industry. They are also used in agriculture, as well as in the private sector, e.g. for renovation or woodworking or sanding or cleaning work. As different as the areas of application of respirators are, so are the needs of the wearers. That is why we at DACH Schutzbekleidung offer a wide range of FFP2- and FFP3 respirators with and without exhalation valves. All our products are certified to EN 149:2001 A1:2009 and CE approved. They are manufactured by DACH in Germany or in China, depending on the model.
Respirators for self-protection and protection of others
In our online shop we offer both FFP2 and FFP3 masks. These are disposable products made of non-woven fabric, which are fastened behind the head with elastic, latex-free ear loops or with an elastic strap. A mouldable wire nose wing optimises the fit to the shape of the nose or face. Masks with headgear ensure a particularly secure fit.
Full-face masks, such as those used by firefighters, are made for repeated use. They protect against dust and toxic gases. They do not filter the air breathed, but require their own oxygen supply. Filtering face pieces (FFP), on the other hand, filter particles and contaminated aerosols from the ambient air.
Application areas and filter classes
Masks of different filter classes are to be worn depending on the area of application. FFP1 masks filter 80 percent of all fundamentally non-toxic pollutants. They can be used for cleaning work, in agriculture or for grinding, drilling or planing.
FFP2 respirators offer a much higher level of high protection against toxic pollutants such as calcium oxide, zinc oxide fumes or dusts from granite or concrete. They are also used in connection with mould, bacteria or viruses. All FFP2 masks that passed a dolomite test provide increased protection against dusts such as those produced when cutting concrete, granite, marble, iron or masonry.
FFP3 respirators filter 99 percent of all carcinogenic, radioactive or otherwise harmful pollutants. They reliably protect against toxic dust from chrome, nickel, mould and cobalt. They are used when working with asbestos, diesel fumes, when welding stainless steel and when dealing with dangerous viruses and bacteria.
FFP respirators from DACH are made of high-quality non-woven material, which increase wearing comfort by reducing breathing resistance. Even more comfortable are FFP masks with an exhalation valve, where the exhaled air escapes through a valve, reducing breathing resistance. All masks from DACH are certified respirators according to DIN EN 149:2001 A1:2009 and have the obligatory CE seal.
FFP2 NR D: What does the “D” mean?
Masks marked with a D (FFP2 NR D or FFP3 NR D) have been subjected to a special test with dolomite dust. Such a test is voluntary and not a mandatory requirement of EN 149. Unlike most “coffee filter masks” on the market, which do not have a “D” in their designation, all high-quality respirators from DACH are distinguished by having passed a dolomite test.

FAQ Mark-Ups:
What are the different types of respirators?
A distinction is made between full face masks and filtering half masks. In our shop we offer filtering half masks of type FFP2 and FFP3. Full-face masks are also known as gas masks and protect the eyes as well as the mouth and nose. Filtering half masks are to be understood as mouth and nose protection.
How does the safe use of respirators work?
Respirators should not only meet the highest quality standards, but also fit properly. This allows them to provide their full protection. After you have put on the mask and fastened the ear loops behind your ears, press the nose clip against your nose so that the mask has an optimal fit.
There are different types of respirators available.
There are different designs. The most common is the so-called “coffee filter mask”, which often does not fit properly. A better fit to the face is offered by duckbill-shaped masks (“duckbill mask”). Multi-part flat masks meet the highest requirements for fit. In addition, there are preformed (deep-drawn) masks that are particularly easy to put on and take off and are therefore especially popular in the trades.
How long may a respirator be worn at a time?
There are no restrictions on the maximum length of time respirators can be worn, but there is a recommendation by the employers' liability insurance association for everyday use: a respirator should not be worn for more than 75 minutes at a time. The better the mask, the lower the breathing resistance and the longer the mask can be worn at a time.
How often can you use respirators?
Filtering respirators (FFP masks) are disposable. They should not be worn for more than one work shift. They cannot be washed or disinfected.
