Bird flu, also known as avian influenza, has struck again, posing new challenges to the poultry industry. Researchers worldwide express concern about the increasingly widespread spread of the H5N1 bird flu virus. For the first time, the virus has reached South America. Only Antarctica and Australia have been spared so far. Cases of bird flu in wild birds, including common murres, black-legged kittiwakes, and other coastal birds, have been reported in various regions of Germany. Given this situation, it is becoming increasingly important to take protective measures to contain the spread of the virus and ensure the protection of poultry.
Current outbreaks of bird flu have been detected in Brandenburg and on the North Sea island of Heligoland. The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) has confirmed the presence of the H5N1 subtype of the influenza virus in samples from dead birds. This subtype is highly contagious for poultry and other birds, posing a serious threat to the poultry industry.
DACH Schutzbekleidung would like to emphasize the importance of reinforcing protective measures in poultry farming. To contain the spread of the virus and prevent possible infection of domestic poultry flocks, we recommend the following measures:
- Hygiene and cleaning protocols: It is crucial to consistently implement general hygiene and cleaning measures in poultry farms. Regular disinfection of barns, cleaning of equipment and vehicles, and the use of protective clothing are essential to prevent transmission of the virus.
- Limiting contact with wild birds: Any direct or indirect contact between captive poultry and wild birds should be minimized as much as possible. This can be achieved through appropriate protective measures such as nets, fences, or coverings.
- Early detection and reporting of disease symptoms: Rapid detection of disease symptoms in poultry is of great importance to identify a bird flu outbreak early. Suspicious cases should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities.
When working with poultry, the use of appropriate protective clothing is of utmost importance. DACH Schutzbekleidung offers a wide range of high-quality products, including protective overalls, gloves, and masks, that provide the necessary protection against bird flu.
